Jim Cochrane

James P. Cochrane was named Chief Information Officer and Executive Vice President in October 2013.  Reporting directly to the U.S. Postmaster General, he oversees the integration of technology and innovation in delivering more than 170 billion pieces of mail to an estimated 150 million homes and businesses across the country.  He is responsible for the third-largest computing network in the world, as well as one of the world’s largest intranets.  Cochrane now directs the advancements of new mail intelligence, engineering systems, information technology systems, payment technology and corporate information security to meet the changing needs of the customer. Focusing on customer needs, operational performance, business intelligence and technology development, Cochrane’s priority is to ensure technology and information continue to evolve to ensure revenue growth and operational efficiency. Prior to this appointment, Cochrane was vice president of Product Information from January 2011 until October 2013. He was responsible for innovations in technologies and tracking systems, including the Intelligent Mail barcode (IMb) and Intelligent Mail package barcode (IMpb). Cochrane has also served as vice president, Product Visibility and Operational Performance from June 2010 until January 2011. He also was vice president, Ground Shipping.  In this capacity, he managed the Postal Service’s portfolio of ground packages, including the creation of the Parcel Select product which has fueled the growth of the USPS shipping business. A 39-year postal veteran, Cochrane, also was manager of Package Services, directing product development and strategy for the Postal Service’s $11 billion portfolio of domestic and international package products. He also served as associate vice president of Marketing and Strategy for the Expedited Package Services strategic business unit; and associate vice president of Sales for the former Northeast Region, where he was responsible for commercial sales of $12 billion annually. Prior to moving to marketing, Cochrane served 25 years in operations, including as district manager of Customer Service and Sales for the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. He also served as senior plant manager of Northern Virginia. He began his USPS career as a postal clerk in 1974. A graduate of American University, Cochrane has a Masters in Public Administration from the School of Public Affairs.
Colin Mahony
HP Vertica
Colin Mahony has been involved with Vertica from the beginning and now serves as its VP and General Manager.  Prior to his role as GM, Colin was responsible for Operations, Product Management, Marketing and Business Development. Colin has over 16 years experience in the high tech industry, and he brings a combination of technical knowledge, market intelligence, customer relationships, and deal experience that help to drive Vertica’s growth and overall vision.Prior to Vertica, Colin was a Vice President at Bessemer Venture Partners focused on investments primarily in enterprise software, telecommunications, and digital media. He established a great network and reputation for assisting in the creation and ongoing operations of companies through his knowledge of technology, markets and general management in both small startups and larger companies. Prior to Bessemer, Colin worked at Lazard Technology Partners in a similar investor capacity.Prior to his venture capital experience, Colin was a Senior Analyst at the Yankee Group serving as an industry analyst and consultant covering databases, BI, middleware, application servers and ERP systems. Colin helped build the ERP and Internet Computing Strategies practice at Yankee in the late nineties. While at Yankee, Colin was a frequent speaker was quoted in several publications including ComputerWorld, InfoWorld, Business Week, and InformationWeek.Colin earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a bachelor’s degree in Economics with a minor in Computer Science from Georgetown University.  He is an active volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay and the Joey Fund for Cystic Fibrosis.
ShilpaLawandeShilpa Lawande

Shilpa Lawande has been an integral part of the Vertica engineering team since its inception, bringing over 10 years of experience in databases, data warehousing and grid computing to Vertica. Prior to Vertica, Shilpa was a key member of the Oracle Server Technologies group where she worked directly on several data warehousing and self-managing features in the Oracle 9i and 10g databases. Lawande is a co-inventor on several patents on query optimization, materialized views and automatic index tuning for databases.She has also co-authored two books on data warehousing using the Oracle database as well as a book on Enterprise Grid Computing.
Chris Selland
VP Marketing and Business Development HP Vertica
Chris Selland is Vice President of marketing for Vertica, an HP company. In this role, he leads global marketing for the HP Vertica Analytics platform. Chris has more than 20 years of experience in online, search and inbound marketing programs. He has also led strategic alliance and corporate development initiatives for entrepreneurial, high-growth companies. Chris is an established thought leader, speaker and author on customer strategy-related topics, including social media analytics and marketing, CRM, customer analytics, metrics and loyalty.Earlier in his career, Selland was Vice President of CRM and Internet Research at the Yankee Group, and later he founded Reservoir Partners, a customer strategy research firm that merged with Aberdeen Group. He is also a founding member of the Enterprise Irregulars. He received a bachelor’s degree in operations research and industrial engineering from Cornell University and a master’s of business administration in international business and economics from the New York University Stern School of Business.
